Need APRS Portable Unit With More Power?
By Joel, K9MLD

This unit is designed to run for at least 7 to 10 hours off the batteries. The radio is an ADI 146 vhf set for 10 watts. The GPS is a Radio Shack with the TinyTrak3  nested in the the battery compartment of the GPS. The antenna is a 1/2 wave Maxar so it has gain but needs no ground plane. I have chokes on the leads as the RF gets into the tracker and messes it up.

This is a portable APRS base station that can be run on 110 vac or 13.8 volts DC. When connected to a laptop or other computer it becomes a functional base station that can be set up anywhere. It has a self contained 110 vac power pack and can be switched to 13.8 volts with a cable stored inside the mounting base. K9MLD
